CHAMBER OF SMALL INDUSRTY ASSOCIATIONS (COSIA) is a NABET Accredited National Chamber of MSMEs. It is a section 25 Company incorporated in 1992. COSIA, since January, 2015 has started its Skill Development Programme (SDP) with an objective to impart Skill development training to members of the weaker section of our society and make them employable or capable for self employment.

COSIA is also been successfully implementing Skill Development Activities in collaboration with various Organisations and Companies as a part of their CSR. There are also other centers where COSIA is conducting Skill Development by spending its own resources.

Till date COSIA has successfully trained approximately more than 3,000 candidates in more than 160 batches at its 9 major centers (Wagle Estate-Thane, Dombivli, Kasarwadavli-Thane, Kandivali-Malad (E), Malad (W), Chembur, Ballard Estate (MSSIDC), Bhandup and Khardanda) across Mumbai and Thane in various courses like Accounts Assistant & Tally operator, Import Export Documentation with Taxation, Computer Hardware and Networking, and Women Oriented Courses like Sewing, Bakery and Beautician. All the above training is provided free of charge (no fees are charged).

COSIA intends to continue this endeavor in the near future with plans to establish new centers across Mumbai and Thane at locales like Govandi, Mumbra, Shahpur etc and to successfully implement CSR for partner Organisations as well as to develop new ties for the same.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT CONDUCTED TILL DATE

COSIA has initiated its Skill Development Initiative since January, 2015 with a pilot project with assistance from Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd (MSSIDC). COSIA started its full fledged Skill Development Wing since July, 20015. COSIA did an extensive survey in Mumbai Region along with its member associations and shortlisted and conducted the following 6 courses:

A. Accounts Assistant & Tally Operator

B. Computer Hardware and Networking

C. Export & Import Documentation & Taxation

D. Pattern Making, Sewing & Cutting

E. Beautician

F. Bakery Products

These courses were selected since they involve less capital investment and could be started immediately as well as students could be employed in  various types of MSME sectors as well as they could also be able to engage in Self Employment.

The following are the Course wise details of Students Trained without charging any fees, from January, 2015 till June, 2019:

The syllabus of all above courses has been designed as per industry’s requirements with a view to make the candidates employable. Technical courses like Welder, Fitter, Electrician, Turner etc will need proper infrastructure with highly qualified & experienced faculties in the respective fields.

These courses were conducted across Mumbai & Thane City at various centers like Wagle Estate - Thane, Dombivali, Ghodbunder (Thane), Malad, Chembur, Ballard Estate, Kandivali, Bhandup, Kurla and Chembur. COSIA is determined & dedicated to continue these courses in the long run with much wider and intensive geographical reach. More efforts will be put in to provide self employment opportunities in a systematic manner with strategic tie ups as needed.

A new center was established in Pachpakhadi, Thane City in association with Dr. Abdul Kalam Kalpakta Kendra in July, 2019. All the above courses will be conducted at this center.

WOMEN ORIENTED COURSES FOR ECONOMICALLY WEAKER SECTION

COSIA has given special consideration for Women Oriented Courses so as to impart skills to women from economically weaker section of our society. These women, most of whom are not qualified to be absorbed in the organized sector, are being trained in such trades whereby they can take up self employment with meager capital needed for initiating the same. COSIA has begun such courses in a full-fledged manner throughout Mumbai and Thane City. Women from slum areas in these Cities, who are keen to skill themselves in order to earn a livelihood for their family, are being selected for these courses.

Through its women oriented courses, COSIA has trained a total of 2381 women candidates from January, 2015 till June, 2019, the details of which are as follows:

How it is done?

COSIA ties up with local Industry associations and/or Social Organisations for establishing local centers. Suitable space is provided by the local organizations and COSIA mostly spends for training/course related expenses like installing Computer System, Softwares, Sewing Machines, ovens, other relevant equipments etc. COSIA also spends for consumables needed. COSIA appoints proper Trainers and pay for their remunerations. After successful completion of a course, the candidate is awarded with a course completion certificate. Candidates from Accounts & Tally courses are suitably placed with member industries (Full time employment) and Candidates of women oriented courses are provided with proper guidance for taking up self employment.

Companies which are under the scope of CSR under the Companies Act can contribute to COSIA’s cause as the SDP comes under “Vocational Training” as per CSR rules and COSIA is qualified under the CSR rules as it is a “Not for Profit” Company incorporated under section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956.
