Exploring Business Opportunities with Belarus

In a recent collaborative effort, the Indian Chamber of International Business (ICIB), along with the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and the Consulate General of Belarus in Mumbai, orchestrated a significant event titled “Doing Business with Belarus.” This gathering, which took place on 24th April 2024 in Mumbai, showcased the burgeoning prospects of economic engagement between India and Belarus.

The esteemed guest of honor, His Excellency Mr. Aliaksandr Matsukou, the Consul General of Belarus in Mumbai, graced the occasion, emphasizing the commitment to fostering robust bilateral relations. COSIA and Yes Bank further added to the collaborative spirit of the event.

A notable feature of the event was the active participation of nearly 65 Indian companies, demonstrating a keen interest in exploring business avenues with Belarus. The virtual presence of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce provided invaluable insights into the economic landscape and opportunities within the country.

Belarus, strategically situated at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, boasts an advantageous geographical position. This location enables Belarus to serve as a pivotal hub connecting the European Union and Central Asia, complemented by a well-developed transportation and logistics infrastructure.

Moreover, as a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EaEU), Belarus offers a common customs territory that facilitates the free movement of goods, services, capital, and workforce across the territories of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. This union ensures a unified customs tariff and regulatory framework, streamlining trade and reducing compliance costs for businesses.

One of Belarus’s standout assets is its highly educated and skilled workforce, with over 90% of the population possessing tertiary, secondary, or basic education qualifications. The country’s commitment to professional training and development contributes to the workforce’s adaptability across diverse industries, including sewing, agriculture, biotechnology, and software development.

Looking ahead, ICIB is poised to lead a delegation to the city of Gomel for the “Spring in Gomel” event, further enhancing collaborative opportunities between Indian and Belarusian businesses.

In summary, the event “Doing Business with Belarus” was instrumental in highlighting the multifaceted advantages of economic cooperation with Belarus. The proactive engagement of Indian companies signifies a promising trajectory for bilateral trade and investment, bolstered by shared objectives of innovation, growth, and mutual prosperity. This dynamic exchange sets the stage for deeper economic partnerships and focus on the potential for fruitful collaborations between India and Belarus in the years to come.
