COSIA & TSSIA Hosts Online Meeting on MSEDCL Matters – 5th February, 2025

On 5th February, 2025, the Chamber of Small Industry Associations (COSIA), in collaboration with the Thane Small Scale Industries Association (TSSIA), successfully organized an important online meeting to address key concerns surrounding the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). The meeting saw the active participation of over 35 sector experts and representatives from various industry and consumer associations across Maharashtra.

The agenda of this meeting covered two critical points:

  1. Discussion on Multi-Year Tariff Petition (Case No. 217 of 2024): The meeting began with a detailed discussion regarding the Multi-Year Tariff Petition filed by MSEDCL before the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC). Sector experts and industry representatives voiced their concerns about the proposed tariff hikes and provided valuable insights into the potential impact on businesses. There was strong opposition from industry representatives, who raised objections to the hike. It was unanimously agreed that a common draft of objections and suggestions would be prepared and submitted by each Industry Association to MERC. This collective response aims to highlight the issues and suggest viable solutions.

  1. Update on Illegal Wheeling Charges: The second agenda point focused on the issue of illegal wheeling charges being imposed by MSEDCL on non-open access consumers. Mr. Mandar Bhat provided an in-depth overview of the issue and his ongoing efforts to challenge these charges. His detailed analysis was greatly appreciated by the participants, who lauded his efforts in advocating for industry interests. The meeting concluded with strong support from all present, who assured Mr. Bhat of their continued assistance in the fight against these unjust charges. COSIA and TSSIA encouraged all industry associations to actively contribute to the cause.

The meeting was efficiently coordinated by Mr. Bhavesh Maru, the Hon. General Secretary of TSSIA, whose efforts were instrumental in ensuring the smooth execution of this important discussion.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from all participants to work together in addressing the issues raised.
