In 2025, the Thane Small Scale Industries Association (TSSIA) proudly marks its Golden Jubilee, commemorating 50 years of unwavering commitment to the growth and development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Maharashtra. Established in 1974 and formally registered in 1977, TSSIA has evolved into the largest registered MSME association in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, boasting a membership exceeding 3,000 enterprises across Thane and its neighboring areas .
The inception of TSSIA traces back to the visionary efforts of its founder, Dr. Madhusudan “Appasaheb” Khambete. Recognizing the challenges faced by small-scale entrepreneurs, Dr. Khambete, alongside fellow industrialists, established the association to serve as a unified voice and support system for MSMEs. From its humble beginnings operating out of Dr. Khambete’s residence, TSSIA has grown into a well-equipped institution located at TSSIA House in Wagle Industrial Estate, Thane.
Over the decades, TSSIA has achieved significant milestones:
- Active participation in the first MSME Facilitation Council for the Konkan Division (2010–2012).
- Collaboration with the Chamber of Small Industry Associations (COSIA) to launch the Kaushalya Vikas Yojana (KVY) in 2015, aiming to create an industry-ready workforce by offering free courses to economically challenged youth and women.
- Organization of numerous seminars and workshops focusing on topics such as export promotion, taxation, lean strategies, innovation and occupational safety, in partnership with COSIA and other stakeholders .
- Representations on various local and State level committees of Tax Authorities, Labour related like ESIC, EPF etc
- TSSIA continues to serve its members by providing advocacy, training, and networking opportunities, thereby enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of MSMEs in the region.
On this momentous occasion, the Chamber of Small Industry Associations (COSIA) extends its heartfelt congratulations to TSSIA. As a founding member of COSIA, TSSIA’s dedication and achievements have been instrumental in advancing the interests of small industries. COSIA reaffirms its support and looks forward to continued collaboration in fostering a robust MSME ecosystem.
