The Chamber of Small Industry Associations (COSIA) proudly acknowledges the persistent and strategic efforts of our member association, Thane Small Scale Industries Association (TSSIA), which have led to a significant breakthrough for the industrial community.
In response to TSSIA’s sustained advocacy, the Urban Development Department (UDD) of the Government of Maharashtra (GoM) issued an important directive on 24th February, 2025, instructing all Municipal Corporations to permanently close their Local Body Tax (LBT) departments by 30th April, 2025.
While the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on 1st July, 2017, resulted in the abolition of LBT, certain Municipal Corporations continued issuing assessment notices under outdated LBT rules, causing confusion and undue pressure on businesses.
Under the proactive leadership of Mr. Jimmy Pauly, Executive Committee Member of TSSIA, rigorous follow-ups were maintained with the UDD to resolve this matter. These efforts have not only brought clarity but also ensured relief to industries, protecting them from unnecessary LBT assessments in the GST era.
Additionally, COSIA, in collaboration with TSSIA, is advocating for an amnesty scheme to safeguard industries against past LBT liabilities. We are committed to ensuring that industries are not harassed by assessment notices or undue demands until the 30th April, 2025 deadline.
We extend our gratitude to the Government of Maharashtra for considering this appeal and reaffirm our dedication to promoting a business-friendly environment for MSMEs across the state.
